CairnTerms of Service
Effective [EFFECTIVE DATE]
⚠ Draft — not yet in force
This document is an unfinished draft. It still needs the publisher’s details filled in and a review by a qualified lawyer before it can be relied on. Nothing here is legal advice, and it does not yet constitute an agreement.
Operator: set LEGAL_ENTITY, LEGAL_CONTACT_EMAIL, LEGAL_JURISDICTION, LEGAL_DATA_REGION and LEGAL_EFFECTIVE_DATE to remove this notice, and have counsel review the wording first.
These terms govern your use of Cairn, provided by [LEGAL ENTITY NAME](“we”). By creating an account you agree to them. If you don’t, please don’t use the service.
What Cairn is — and is not
Cairn is an educational record-keeping tool for teaching children about money. It is a shared scorekeeper for pretend family money.
- Cairn does not move real money. It is not a bank, credit union, money transmitter, broker, or payment service. It holds no funds and cannot transfer any.
- It does not connect to your bank, and issues no cards. Any real money that changes hands in your family is settled by you, outside the app.
- The “loans” and “interest” it models are teaching devices between a parent and their own child. They are not credit, and not enforceable financial products.
- External account balances are values you type in. Cairn does not verify them or connect to any institution.
Not financial, tax, or legal advice
Nothing in Cairn — including calculators, projections, lesson content, market summaries, and any reference material about interest rates or account rules — is financial, investment, tax, or legal advice, and none of it is personalised to your circumstances.
Growth percentages are illustrative teaching numbers, not predictions. Projections show what money could become under an assumption; they are not forecasts and must not be relied on for real decisions. Reference material may be incomplete or out of date, including where rules are still evolving. For real decisions, consult a qualified professional.
Accounts and your responsibilities
- You must be an adult, and the parent or legal guardian of any child you add.
- By adding a child you confirm you have authority to consent to their use of Cairn on their behalf.
- You are responsible for keeping your password and any second-factor device secure, and for everything done through your account.
- You are responsible for supervising your children’s use, and for any real-world arrangement — allowance, chores, rewards, or repayment — that you settle outside the app.
- Any other parent you add gets full access to your household’s data. Only add someone you intend to have it.
Acceptable use
Please don’t:
- Try to access another household’s data, or probe for ways to do so.
- Interfere with the service, or attempt to overwhelm it.
- Use it for anything unlawful, or to store sensitive personal data it isn’t built for.
- Present Cairn’s output as professional financial advice to anyone.
Subscriptions and billing
- New households begin with a 14-day free trial, with no card required.
- Current prices are shown before you subscribe. Subscriptions renew automatically for the period you chose until cancelled.
- You can cancel at any time from the Billing screen; access continues to the end of the period you have paid for.
- Prices may change, with notice, and never retroactively for a period already paid.
Availability
We aim to keep Cairn running but do not promise uninterrupted service. Features may change, and we may add, alter, or discontinue parts of it. Cairn requires an internet connection and does not work offline. We may suspend an account that appears to be putting the service or other families at risk.
Your data
Your family’s information is handled as described in the Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms. You can export or delete a child’s data at any time. Keep your own copies of anything you need to retain.
Ending it
You may stop using Cairn and delete your data whenever you like. We may end access if these terms are seriously or repeatedly broken, or if we discontinue the service — in which case we’ll give reasonable notice so you can export your data first.
Disclaimers and liability
Cairn is provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent the law allows. In particular we do not warrant that projections, calculations, or reference material are accurate, complete, or suitable for any decision you make.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, nor for financial decisions taken in reliance on Cairn. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms; the effective date above will change and material changes will be brought to your attention. Continuing to use Cairn after a change means accepting it.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of [GOVERNING JURISDICTION].
